Wunderflats expands into Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Switzerland – Housing platform now active in eight European countries

Berlin, March 18, 2026 – Wunderflats is continuing its European expansion strategy with its market entry into Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Switzerland. The company is now present in a total of eight European countries: Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, and the four new markets. With the simultaneous launch in major hubs such as Milan, Madrid, Lisbon, as well as an initial offering across Switzerland, between 240 and 460 verified housing units are available in each new market at launch.

The total portfolio now comprises more than 63,000 apartments across Europe. With its expansion into Southern Europe and Switzerland, the international offering has grown by 18 percent. The selected locations focus on economic centers with high demand for temporary housing solutions for professionals, project staff, and international companies.

Addressing rising mobility in Europe

The expansion responds to a growing discrepancy: while the EU labor market is increasingly cross-border, the housing market remains nationally fragmented. According to Eurostat, 47% of all moves within the EU are job-related. However, varying regulatory requirements and a lack of digital, verified offers make it difficult for professionals to settle quickly in a new country.

“Nowadays, professionals can easily find new jobs internationally, but the subsequent search for an apartment is often complicated,” says Jan Hase, CEO of Wunderflats. “Different rules and bureaucratic hurdles apply all over Europe. This is where we come in: with a simple and fair rental process for both tenants and landlords. Our goal is to enable people to live and work wherever they choose. With this simultaneous market entry into four additional countries, we are taking a significant step towards making this possible across Europe.”

Focus on uniform standards and local legal security

The selection of locations also reflects the needs of international professionals and companies already using Wunderflats in its core markets. While demand in Madrid, Lisbon, and Milan is concentrated in the tech and industrial sectors, Switzerland is a key location for the financial industry and numerous international organizations.

“We are now transferring our proven processes from Germany and our existing markets to Southern Europe and Switzerland,” Jan Hase continues. “This means that landlords and tenants in Milan, for example, can rely on a rental process that is just as secure and fast as in Berlin. We provide verified listings, digital identity and credit checks, and legally vetted rental contracts tailored to each local market. This is a major step toward a fair and integrated European Union.”

In existing markets, the average occupancy rate for listings on Wunderflats is 95%, with an average rental period of five months. This makes Wunderflats a flexible alternative to traditional long-term rentals without the risks associated with short-term tourist rentals.

The simultaneous market entry into four countries is part of an ongoing scaling strategy. In the coming months, Wunderflats plans to launch its portfolio in more European markets, expanding its digital rental infrastructure across the continent for both tenants and landlords.
