In today’s interconnected world, corporations are not just profit-making entities, they have a crucial role to play in addressing societal issues and contributing to the well-being of communities. Companies that truly embrace corporate responsibility integrate it into their core values and overall strategy and that community involvement for businesses is not limited to just donating money.
Companies are always seeking opportunities to drive real change and support meaningful causes. Social impact has evolved to play an important part of corporate strategy to protect and create value. As Winston Churchill once said “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” It is what drives the purpose and mission of many organizations.
This belief is clearly seen in the 2023 Edelman Trust Barometer Global Report, where 69% of employees expect meaningful work that shapes society, for the business to reflect their own values, and having societal impact is a strong expectation when considering a job. The report also shows that when people are asked regarding various societal issues, 41% believe that collaborating with government is the approach that most likely to result in constructive action, which is 4x more likely to yield optimal results from a partnership than business alone.
At Wunderflats, our purpose is to enrich life stories through housing. Our story is rooted in the belief that freedom and opportunity go hand in hand, therefore, we aim to create widespread opportunity and freedom through flexible housing. We prioritize the well-being of stakeholders, markets, and the local communities in which we operate. The act of giving back to the community is integral to Wunderflats, the war outbreak in Ukraine in 2022 impassioned the company to offer its resources and technology while simultaneously promoting a strong culture of caring from within.
We used our platform to connect refugees with landlords who are open to providing their homes either at no cost or for a reduced rate. This initiative offered refugees safe and affordable housing options, thereby easing the burden on local humanitarian groups and government institutions.
To continue to address this issue, Helfende Waende was launched in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) and ProjectTogether, a non-profit organization. The main goal is to provide refugees with a convenient, efficient, and safe method for locating private housing options across Germany. Through this campaign, we aim to streamline the process of connecting refugees with appropriate housing opportunities and make their experience easier and safer.
Companies don’t necessarily need to have deep pockets to give back, just big hearts. There are many more stories of how companies large and small can make a difference.
