- Ukrainians displaced by the war can book available housing in Germany directly through the website – fast and securely
- 150 Wunderflats employees and volunteers match Ukrainians with available housing
- The initiative has already provided more than 460,000 safe nights to Ukrainians in need
Berlin, April 7, 2022. Wunderflats, Germany’s leading platform for temporary furnished housing has launched a new matching site for Ukrainians displaced by the war. The new platform, active since the end of March, enables Ukrainians in need of housing to book available accommodation in Germany directly online. Offers on the website are either free of charge or bookable at discounted rental prices. Throughout the matching and booking process, Ukrainian renters as well as German housing providers are supported by a Wunderflats team of 150 people – among them 100 volunteers. Prior to the launch of the new platform, the Wunderflats team matched Ukrainians exclusively manually. The temporary housing provider is currently working on mobilizing additional housing providers to increase the number of listings on the website.
“Our new matching platform allows us to help even more people displaced by the war in Ukraine – it greatly simplifies the process of finding housing in Germany. People in need of housing can use our platform to independently find and book accommodation – housing providers can use it to list their available spaces. It makes the process faster for both sides”, says Jan Hase, CEO of Wunderflats. The Berlin startup welcomes collaboration: “We’re happy to provide our technology and platform infrastructure to other companies and NGOs. Any initiative interested in using our platform to help more Ukrainians in need can contact us – together we can achieve more. In the meantime, we’re working on making our initiative even more visible to reach more housing providers.”
Nearly half a million safe nights provided since the start of the war
Wunderflats has been matching Ukrainians in need with available accommodation in Germany since the beginning of the war. On February 28, two websites went live – one for housing offers and one for housing requests. Since then Wunderflats has already provided more than 460,000 safe nights to people displaced by the war. For the Ukraine effort, using the Wunderflats platform to list or find housing is free.
Strong focus on safety for both sides
Throughout the matching process, Wunderflats focuses on providing a safe experience for both sides, verifying renters as well as housing providers. ID documents are verified with Veriff before a rental contract is issued. Verifying personal data during matching makes the process as safe as possible, enabling Wunderflats to track which housing provider housed which individual or group. Additionally, the Wunderflats team personally contacts people looking for housing and maintains close contact throughout the matching process. Wunderflats does not house minors who are traveling alone. The team immediately refers these cases to the German youth authorities to make sure the minors receive adequate care.
